## What this hub is

Step-by-step Melty guides: download on Windows, Press Play, invite links, Claude Code / Codex publishing, uninstall restore, and safety checks.

Melty is a free Windows desktop app from Stella Montis Inc., backed by Y Combinator. The public landing still shows Download, How it works, and FAQ only. This hub exists so search engines and AI crawlers can open a clean HTML/Markdown URL for the topic.

Mashups run on games you own. Play downloads the mashup, installs what it needs, and starts the game. Uninstalling puts every file back. Multiplayer mashups get an invite link. You can publish your own mashup by pasting Melty instructions into Claude Code or Codex.

## How to use Melty after you read this

Download the Windows app, press Play on a mashup, and keep or share the lobby link if the mashup is multiplayer. If a required game is missing, Melty opens that game's store instead of pirating a copy.

## Pages in this section

- [Download Melty for Windows](/guides/download-melty-windows) — Melty is free for Windows. The download page is /download on this host. The app is a desktop launcher, not a browser game.

- [Install the Melty desktop app](/guides/install-melty) — Melty installs as a normal Windows app. It does not replace Steam, Xbox, or the Minecraft launcher.

- [Play your first Melty mashup](/guides/first-mashup) — First-run path: own the two games, press Play, wait for install, then the host game starts.

- [What the Melty Play button does](/guides/press-play) — Play downloads the mashup, installs what it needs, and starts the game. That sentence is the product.

- [Forget setup — play in one click](/guides/one-click-setup) — Melty's landing promise: no Vortex/MO2 profile for the mashup path. Play is the setup.

- [Multiplayer mashups out of the box](/guides/play-with-friends) — Multiplayer mashups mint an invite link. Private, friends, or public lobby.

- [How Melty invite links work](/guides/invite-link) — The landing demo shows a link shaped like /j/amber-fox-7k2q. Friends use that join path after they have Melty and the games.

- [Create a public mashup lobby](/guides/public-lobby) — A public lobby is an invite link you open to anyone, not a matchmaking service for games you do not own.

- [Keep a mashup lobby private](/guides/private-lobby) — Default friend play: generate a link, do not flip it public, send it in Discord or chat.

- [Create and publish a mashup with your AI](/guides/create-mashup-with-ai) — Copy Melty instructions into Claude Code or Codex, describe the mashup, let the agent build and publish.

- [Publish Melty mashups with Claude Code](/guides/claude-code-melty) — The landing names Claude Code as a coding agent you paste Melty instructions into.

- [Publish Melty mashups with Codex](/guides/openai-codex-melty) — Codex is the other named coding agent on the Melty FAQ.

- [Publish your mashup on Melty](/guides/publish-mashup) — Publishing is the last step after an agent (or you) builds the mashup. Uploads are scanned.

- [Uninstalling puts every file back](/guides/uninstall-restore-files) — Melty's FAQ: uninstalling a mashup restores the game files it changed.

- [What Melty does if you do not own a game](/guides/missing-owned-game) — Melty sends you to that game's store. It does not provide the base game.

- [How Melty uses your Steam library](/guides/steam-library) — Melty looks for owned installed games (including Steam app IDs shown on the landing covers) and then starts them.

- [Verified mashups and dangerous-file scans](/guides/safety-and-verification) — Every upload is checked for dangerous files. Report a mashup from its page if it looks wrong.

- [Report a mashup from its page](/guides/report-a-mashup) — The landing safety FAQ: report from the mashup page. There is no separate email form on the clone homepage.

- [Melty system requirements (Windows)](/guides/system-requirements) — Melty itself is a free Windows desktop app. The heavy requirements are the two games you mash.

- [Melty is a Windows app](/guides/windows-10-11) — The landing marks the download as free for Windows. There is no macOS/Linux download on the public page.

- [Fix a mashup that will not start](/guides/troubleshooting-wont-start) — Most start failures are a missing owned game, a store not running, or leftover files. Play only starts what it can see.

- [When Play is stuck on Installing](/guides/troubleshooting-install-stuck) — Installing means Melty is still writing mashup files. A freeze usually means disk, antivirus, or a closed store client.

- [Friends cannot join a Melty lobby](/guides/multiplayer-desync) — Joiners need Melty, the same mashup, and the same owned games. The invite link is not a cracked multiplayer bypass.

- [How Melty finds games in your library](/guides/how-melty-finds-games) — Melty is a launcher on top of copies you already have, including Steam app IDs used on the landing art.

- [Restore a vanilla game after a mashup](/guides/restore-vanilla-game) — Uninstall is the supported restore. Do not delete random folders by hand if Melty can revert them.

- [What 'verified' means on Melty](/guides/verified-uploads) — The landing says play verified mashups and mods for free, and that uploads are checked for dangerous files.

- [Melty and its mashups are free](/guides/free-mods-mashups) — FAQ: nothing. Melty and its mashups are free. You still pay publishers for the base games you do not own.

- [What the Melty Windows app is](/guides/desktop-app-overview) — Discover mashups, press Play, copy a lobby link, publish with an AI agent. That is the whole product surface the landing advertises.
